Subject: Re: problems with latest distribution
- dviljk doesn't install the HP fonts, because of an apparent
recursion in the fonts makefile.
It worked for me with GNU make. Perhaps it's something in Ultrix make.
It's probably not worth investigating, since I'm going to change the way
the fonts are installed anyway to a simple recursive copy.
Also, DEFS is not propagated, so
it's necessary to change it in the subdirectory makefile.
I can't propagate everything, there isn't enough argument space on
system V. You can add the -D's to CFLAGS.
- there seem to be some make bugs; for example, run-triptrap in the HP
recompiles everything, even though I had just made triptrap! This
doesn't happen in the sun.
I suspect this is because of a difference in HP's make -- it thinks a
file is out of date if it is <= the dependency, instead of just <. I
remember fixing something about this for the next release.
On the other hand, in the sun all
variables are not taken into account in the kpathsea subdir... I had
to change that Makefile directly.
This is too vague for me to do anything about. Which variables? What did
you do? What did you expect?
- BUG: there's an incompatibility in the kpathsea library between
web2c-6.1, xdvik-1.8 and dvipsk-5.55a. Some files don't exist,
although they're listed in the makefiles depencencies.
I never claimed that they did. Get
ftp.cs.umb.edu:pub/tex/web2c.kpathsea.help if you want to use the same
kpathsea. I simply can't release web2c as often as the drivers.
- BUG: xdvik-1.8 doesn't build at all even separetly, because of
missing files in xdvik-1.8/kpathsea!
No one else has ever reported this, so I surmise either the archive site
has a mangled distribution (try ftp.cs.umb.edu), or you somehow lost
files between unpacking and compilation.
